Dr. Nana Akosua Ansah is a medical doctor and clinical researcher who is the current head of the Clinical Science Department of the Navrongo Health Research Centre in Ghana.The Navrongo Health Research Centre is one of three research centres under the Research and Development Division of the Ghana Health Service which conducts health and demographic surveillance in their catchment area. She has been involved in clinical trials, epidemiology research and pharmacovigilance for over 20 years.
Her research has spanned epidemiological studies of infectious diseases, drug and vaccine clinical trials (phases 1,2, 3 and 4) involving cervical cancer, meningitis, rotavirus, malaria, Lassa fever and Covid-19. She has played various roles as a clinical investigator and has overseen safety monitoring on several of these trials. She has also participated in safety surveillance of the RTSS malaria vaccine and COVID 19 vaccines in Ghana. Additionally, she has been involved in training of health workers and non-medical volunteers in pharmacovigilance and disease control to strengthen adverse event reporting.Her doctorate work entails assessment of the capacity of the health systems for post-marketing surveillance of vaccines in Ghana.
She has certificates in Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance, an MSc in Infectious Diseases and is currently a PhD fellow in Epidemiology at the University of Utrecht.
