Sophia Newcomer, PhD, MPH is an associate professor of epidemiology with the University of Montana (UM) School of Public and Community Health Sciences and a research investigator with the UM Center for Population Health Research. Dr. Newcomer’s research focuses on vaccine safety, vaccine confidence, and immunization services delivery, with an emphasis on reducing rural-urban disparities in vaccine uptake. She is currently the principal investigator of a R01 funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases investigating national trends in adherence to the U.S. recommended childhood immunization schedule. Prior to joining the UM faculty in 2018, Dr. Newcomer worked for ten years at Kaiser Permanente Colorado’s Institute for Health Research, where she collaborated on the CDC’s Vaccine Safety Datalink.
