Omaymah Abulannaz is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Manitoba. With a diverse academic foundation rooted in dentistry, Omaymah embarked on a transformative journey, shifting her focus to the critical realm of medication safety during pregnancy and lactation.
Throughout her ongoing Ph.D. journey, Omaymah's achievements have been remarkable. She has described the incidence of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) and opioid use trends among pregnant women in Manitoba. She has examined the clinical and demographic factors associated with the development and severity of NAS. Furthermore, she has evaluated the association between prenatal opioid exposure and subsequent neurodevelopmental outcomes. Her research draws on a wealth of administrative data housed at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. Her main goal is to advance scientific knowledge of safe and effective medications for women and children.
