Dr. Tzuyung Douglas Kou is the Executive Director and Head of Epidemiology at BeiGene USA. Dr. Kou has more than 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, designing and conducting clinical trials and drug safety research using various real-world data (RWD) resources and innovative analytical platforms.
In his current role at BeiGene, Dr. Kou provides leadership in observational research and influences BeiGene’s unique global clinical development strategy to integrate epidemiology into the early drug development process and post marketing safety. He also serves as BeiGene’s epidemiological expert in meetings with external clinical research and regulatory stakeholders. In his previous role at Bristol Myers Squibb, he led the regulatory and data generation strategy resulting in a successful FDA submission using real world evidence (RWE) for approval of new indication. With experience from several successful negotiations and filings, Dr. Kou is well positioned to implement innovative application of RWE methodologies across countries and regions, such as Asia Pacific Region and Latin America, to support BeiGene’s mission of expediting product development and providing access to medicines for patients worldwide.
Dr. Kou obtained his Doctoral degree in Clinical Epidemiology, Master of Sciences degree in Public Health, and Master of Arts degree in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He conducted health policy research using RWD at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and Louis Stoke Veteran Administration Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. His academic affiliation continues as an adjunct assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine where he continues to mentor numerous graduate students through fellowship and internship programs at BeiGene USA.
